This time I found a simple error in Msn WebMessenger: a double question mark for opening the same online help...

No name buttons

Mihály Nyeste, one of our software testers, sent me a nice screen about Mercury TestDirector, which is a test management tool.

It seems a game of hazard to find the proper button at the bottom of the screen.

Unlimited space from your italian email account!

Many and many email providers are giving lots of Gb of space for storing email, websites, photo albums... it seems unlimited space... you will "never" reach 100% for your 4.5 GB in Gmail...

But there is a solution! You can exceed the standard 100% and get more and more! Like with the italian provider email.it (their slogain is "the professional email")...

For who can't speak italian, it is written 159% used...

Very hidden excel sheet

One of our Excel files is opening so slowly, so I decided to check if it is using some kind of macros. When I opened the macro editor I found this three-state option to set the visibility of a sheet.

  • -1: xlSheetVisible
  • 0: xlSheetHidden
  • 2: xlSheetVeryHidden
I was also curious why value one is missing from the sequence... I thought it has a "magic" meaning, so I checked an other property:

  • 0: xlNoRestrictions
  • 1: xlUnlockedCells
  • -4142: xlNoSelection
It seems a logical sequence.

Remarks: "The property xlSheetHidden hides the sheet, but it can be made visible by any user through the Excel user interface. If you use xlSheetVeryHidden, however, the user cannot make the sheet visible through the Excel user interface. " (msdn2)

Invalid handle

Our sysadmin moved the source safe database to a new server, I wanted to open an existing project, and change the location of the source control inside the visual studio, but it gave me a very useful error message:

I become curios about this well defined error message, and tired the "Help" option, but it provided the "expected result":

Of course the "Information Not Found".

I guess the developers made a survey about the clicking ratio and about 90% percent of the users clicked immediately to the "Ok" option instead of the "Help", so to create the help was not required.

Exception ? Who did it? Not me...

Software exceptions often occurs, because of memory leaks, file system status, unexpected events and so on... But today SQL Navigator showed me a very strange message:

I really don't know which was the problem but if "SQLNav5.exe" is showing a message it should be a litte more precise at least about who raised the exception... maybe itself ?

Good programme for afternoon

Microsoft has released service pack 1 for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.

Installing a software update sometimes really takes several minutes, but warning about several hours looked like a joke.

But it was not.

About Groupwise address book

Seems strange but it seems that the "graphics team" of Groupwise is not so synchronized about translations with the others teams... The title of the windows is correct but the graphical message not really...

Prease click avanti

Sometimes seems to me that some developers don't really care about translations... Or maybe people when installing a software is used to click on "next" without reading...

In the next screen (in Italian) there is a mistyping error "farvore" instead of "favore" (please) and an inconsistency between a description label and the next button texts.

So, read what's on your monitor before clicking next!
